Married to a man 30 years younger: how I discovered what I hid in my cup every karanoche

The memories that started to have another meaning

I squeezed the phone hard. Suddenly, the last six years of my life began to rearrange in my head. The mornings I woke up dizzy. The nights I couldn’t remember how I got to bed. Ethan’s words the next day, always the same, always with that tender smile:

Acquire Equipment Communications

You slept like a  baby.

I had attributed everything to age. At almost 60 years old, it seemed natural to me to feel more tired, slower, more fragile. I never suspected there was another explanation.

The doctor recommended me to stop consuming anything prepared by that person and talk to the authorities and my lawyer as soon as possible. I hung up the phone and stayed almost half an hour inside the  car, still. I didn’t cry. Not yet.

The cameras that confirmed everything

On my lawyer’s advice, I installed security cameras in the common areas of the house. Three nights later, when he thought I was sleeping, the office camera recorded him opening the file cabinet, photographing documents and making a call. The audio was weak, but a phrase was clearly heard:

ConsultationExpert Lawyers

“Not yet. It has to look natural.

I heard it five times. “Let it look natural.” I didn’t need any more explanations.

I sent the recording to the lawyer and went to the police with the results of the lab and all the evidence I had kept. That same day I left the house without telling Ethan where he was going. I took refuge with a friend.

At night the calls started. First tender. Then irritated. In the end, there was no longer any trace of the calm man he had met in yoga classes.
