For a few weeks I let myself breathe. My cheerful boy was resurfacing.
Then the laptop started staying open past midnight.
I walked into his room one night with folded laundry, and he angled the screen away so fast the hinge creaked.
I did something I’d sworn I’d never do.
“What are you working on?”
“I need to finish something.”
