At first glance they looked official. Crestwood logo at the top. Employee name. Supervisor signature. Explanation of misconduct.
But I had spent weeks looking at Crestwood papers on our kitchen floor with a flashlight after Mom fell asleep on the couch. I knew the difference between the school’s forms. I knew how the older ones had a crest watermark behind the text, and the newer ones did not. I knew the cafeteria incident forms used the phrase “staff member,” while administrative write-ups used “employee.”
These three used both.
And the second warning had something even better.
A mistake.
I tugged my mother’s sleeve.
“What?” she whispered.
“Look at the date.”
