She looked.
Then she blinked.
“Your Honor,” she said, slowly now, with a little more strength, “I don’t think this second warning is real.”
The courtroom seemed to lean toward her.
Latham frowned. “That is an outrageous accusation.”
My mother’s voice shook, but she did not stop. “It says I was warned in person on February twelfth at four-thirty p.m.”
“And?” Latham said.
“I was at urgent care with my daughter.”
My heart thumped.
